Advances in Veterinary Science

There are many areas of Veterinary Science in which new developments and new ideas are not only of a general interest but are also useful to veterinary practitioners, teachers, animal scientists and students. With this in mind and appreciating the difficulty of getting up to date knowledge of recent developments, the Tanzanian Veterinary Bulletin intends to publish from time to time articles which survey an important aspect of Veterinary education.
The article by Professor A. R. Akester on avian respiration is the first in this series. It was originally prepared for the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, in connection with one of their educational programmes. It is reproduced here with permission of the author who has recently been helping with the teaching of Tanzanian veterinary students at Morogoro.
