Abstract

Out of ten naturally occurring infections of Trypanosoma simiae in adult pigs which had not responded to Diminazene aceturate 5mg/kg body weight (BW) and Isometamedium chloride at 1mg/kg, three were treated successfully with Quinapyramine at 11.7 mg/kg BW. Three drugs however were considered to be of no value in clinical infection. Eight other cases were treated only with Quinapyramine prosalt (sulphate and chloride) at 11.7mg/kg BW and seven were cured. Early treatments were considered to be more effective and were practicable in smaller piggery units while prophylaxis seemed to be ideal in larger units and situations where peracute infections may occur
